First appearing in R.A. Salvatore’s 1988 novel, The Crystal Shard, the drow character Drizzt Do’Urden is now available in a 1/4 scale statue produced by Gatherer’s Tavern. It’ll be in a limited run of only 399, and is priced at $1,328. The statue includes Drizzt’s panther best friend, Guenhwyvar. The status stands at 49 centimeters in height.
This release coincides with the publication of the final book in Salvatore’s The Way Of The Drow trilogy, titled Lolth’s Warrior, in which Drizzt appears.
The character was created unexpectedly when Salvatore needed to quickly replace a character in the novel, and since his debut has proved to be one of the most enduringly popular D&D fiction characters ever. Drizzt bucks the trend of the “evil” dark elf (drow), and Salvatore has used the character to challenge prejudice and stereotypical ways of thinking.
