Essen Spiel, the world’s largest board game convention, has admitted to using art and copy generated by AIs in its marketing material for 2023. Merz Verlag, Essen Spiel’s parent company, says that the images were supplied by a partner design agency. Merz Verlag does not know which AI and LLM tools were used.
Perplexingly, Merz Verlag has also said that “the protection of artists rights has priority for us.”
Essen Spiel 2023 opens in just a few days on October 5th.
