Kaldheim spoiler season begins this week with a selection of cards teased for the newest Magic: the Gathering set. The set draws heavy inspiration from Norse stories and imagery. Let’s take a look at the first previews.
Saga’s are a fitting mechanic to see return to a Norse themed set. While not as good as drawing 4 cards, the chapter 1 effect lets you play them until the end of your next turn. So even if you pop off the Showdown of the Skalds early in the game, you still have the opportunity to synergize the exiled cards in chapter 2. Just watch out for your opponent’s creature removal.
Not quite a Viking ship funeral, Pyre of Heroes provides a way of casting a creature above your current mana curve. Also, with a robust selection of creatures in your deck, you’ll have answers your opponent didn’t expect from previous casts.
Modal Double-Faced Cards make a return with the first four bringing mana flexibility to the set.
We’ll be sharing more previews as Kaldheim spoiler season continues through December and January. The set is expected to release on February 5th, 2021.
