The prestigious Spiel des Jahres is an annual award for tabletop games released to German-speaking markets. It was created in 1978 to reward family-friendly games and promote excellence in game quality. SDJ has played a major role in the success of games over the years and has been a big catalyst in the rise of the so-called euro-game.
