Stronghold Games has recently come under fire for using AI Art in its Terraforming Mars expansion Kickstarter project. Kickstarter requires projects to indicate if they use AI-generated art and this seems to be the first way anyone found out about Stronghold’s use of it.
The expansion was designed by FryxGames (who also designed the core Terraforming Mars game) and Enoch Fryxelius, FryxGames’ CEO, made a Facebook post explaining the choice to use AI art. Fryxelius said that he will avoid using AI art for the next Terraforming expansion, and plans to pay a fair wage to a working artist instead.
